Ciné Concert
ilm & Music live — Laurel & Hardy : the most irresistible comedy duo in the history of silent cinema. This film concert delights young and old alike, whether they’re jazz enthusiasts or complete novices.
The five musicians have produced a true work of composition, blending jazz, improvisation and musical humour. These original, tailor-made pieces are performed live during the screening of three short films, with energy and infectious good humour.
Laurel and Hardy were masters of slapstick. In this genre of comedy, the actors' actions and movements are exaggerated to the extreme to create a comical effect. The stories, often mundane and absurd, focus entirely on the actors and their facial expressions. Together, they were a huge success and, between 1927 and 1951, made no fewer than 106 short and feature-length films.
Michel Debrulle drums, percussion | Nicolas Dechêne guitars, bass | Pauline Leblond trumpets | Michel Massot sousaphone, euphonium, trombone | Rudy Mathey clarinets
A little background
On two occasions, BOZAR – Brussels invited the Collectif du Lion to provide original music and live accompaniment for silent films as part of the UFA Films Night: two sold-out evenings open to all ages!
The first time was for Buster Keaton’s Our Hospitality, and the second time for three Laurel & Hardy short films. The success of these events inspired us to continue the adventure.
